Institute of Earth Sciences (IES) is a diversified institute devoted to the frontier researches of earth and environmental sciences. IES has distinguished itself by developing a curriculum and research program geared towards responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources. In addition to strong education and research programs in traditional field of earth sciences, IES is one of a very few institutions in Taiwan having broad expertise in marine geophysical exploration, petroleum, geothermal energy, and hydrogeology. IES is also eager to seek the international cooperation and devotes to the cutting edge research in climate change, earthquake, and plate tectonic. The students and faculty in IES are working collaboratively toward a shared vision of academic excellence, environmental challenge, and international outlook.
The goal of the Institute is to train students with the geological and geophysical methods and their applications to the problems of marine & environmental geosciences, resource exploration and tectonic/engineering geophysics. Our research topics focus on:
- Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology.
- Ocean Bottom Seismometer (OBS) and Join Research for Continental Shelf (JRCS).
- High-Resolution Seismic, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Imaging and Seismic Data Processing.
- Sedimentary Environment Analyses and Paleo-environmental Changes.
- Mineral Synthesis.
- Seismology.
